Leading Through Change: Improvisation and the Future of Leadership

  • Chicago Cultural Center 78 East Washington Street Chicago, IL, 60602 United States (map)

Business and cultural leaders join Herbie Hancock, jazz icon and music pioneer, for a forward-looking conversation on leadership in an era of rapid change. Set against the backdrop of the 250th anniversary of the United States, the discussion reflects on how American culture—through music, creativity, and technological innovation—has shaped global popular culture over the past century, while looking ahead to the leadership challenges of the future. Drawing on Hancock’s groundbreaking career—marked by fearless experimentation, technological innovation, and the expansion of jazz into new artistic and cultural territories—the panel explores how adaptability, deep listening, and creative risk-taking can unlock human potential and shape effective collaboration in tomorrow’s fast-paced, AI- driven environments. The conversation also examines how leadership approaches that embrace spontaneity and improvisation foster resilience within today’s increasingly complex and unpredictable systems. The panel will be moderated by jazz enthusiast John Ridding, former long-time CEO and now Honorary Chairman of the Financial Times.
